Athlete Engineering researchers recognize the real work happens in the field and rarely in the laboratory. As new human performance technologies are designed by the Athlete Engineering research team in the lab and new vendor solutions are validated against gold standards of measurement, our network of industry partners and practitioners provide feedback ensuring that all research conducted fits an important need while always being considerate of the real customer. Practitioners from the NFL, the NBA, the MLB, multiple NCAA athletic programs, orthopedic surgeons, health and safety engineers from local and regional industries, and workforce training programs provide continuous feedback for every research effort that takes place between the academic researchers and the “athlete.” Athlete Engineering also recognizes that human performance isn’t limited to sports. The repetitive motion workers in industrial facilities within Mississippi and neighboring states, as well as the military warfighters at home and abroad, are all athletes and can therefore utilize the capabilities of the Athlete Engineering team. For this reason, research team expertise includes former industry and military human performance experts. AEI's primary function is to serve industry and military partners and, while the sports athletes receive much of the attention from this program, everything done through Athlete Engineering is can apply to anywhere that human movement and performance needs evaluation. Athlete Engineering Institute

Collaborators

The Athlete Engineering Institute is dedicated to advancing human performance through its research on the four athlete personas: the Tactical Athlete, Industrial Athlete, At-risk Athlete, and Sports Athlete. This work involves the testing of innovative wearable technology, designed in the Institute’s Athlete Engineering Research Lab. We actively work with a variety of academic department and research centers across campus including Bagley College of Engineering, the Department of Kinesiology, the School of Human Sciences, and Mississippi State Athletics. Active collaborations with other research centers include the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems(CAVS), CAVS Extension, National Strategic Planning and Analysis Research Center (NSPARC), Advanced Composites Institute (ACI), and the T.K. Martin Center. Additionally, we actively work with technology vendors to validate their cutting-edge human performance technologies, while also investigating new ways to implement their technologies across athlete personas.
